My son didn't have a good experience previous at a different clinic, and I heard great things about Tooth Pals. The rumors were definitely true! Dr Ranjan and his staff were amazing and so fast doing my son's dental procedure! I am so grateful how patient and awesome they were with him during the whole thing! My son has been through a difficult experience because of a tooth infection, and we were referred to your team. He was scared and anxious, but the staff were so gentle with him. They stayed calm and patient, supporting him and guiding him through every step.

My son needed some pretty major dental work and I was feeling like a terrible parent because of it. Arlene and Dr Ranjan were so amazing throughout the whole process, and made me feel better about things. If your child needs anesthesia for dental work or has complex needs that make dentist visits difficult I would highly recommend going here. A tongue-tie can limit how freely the tongue moves. Dr. Ranjan assesses your child, listens to your concerns and explains whether treatment may be appropriate.

What to expect

What is a tongue-tie?

The small band of tissue under the tongue (the frenulum) is shorter or tighter than usual, which can restrict tongue movement.

How it may affect oral function

• Latching or feeding difficulties in babies
• Difficulty chewing or swallowing certain foods
• Trouble forming some speech sounds
• Keeping teeth clean

These concerns can have other causes too, which is why an assessment helps.

Not every tongue-tie needs treatment. Treatment is only recommended when the tie is causing problems with feeding, speech or oral care.

Treatment, if recommended

A short procedure called a frenectomy, using a laser or sterile surgical scissors. Babies and younger children often receive topical numbing cream; older children may receive local anesthesia.

Questions to ask about aftercare

• What care is needed at home, and for how long?
• When is the follow-up visit?
• Should we involve a lactation consultant, feeding therapist or speech specialist?

What to expect

What is a lip-tie?

The tissue connecting the upper lip to the gums is tight enough to restrict how the lip moves.

When to ask about an assessment

• Your baby has ongoing latching or feeding concerns
• It's hard to lift the lip to brush the front teeth
• Your doctor, midwife or lactation consultant suggested a check

Not every lip-tie needs treatment. Many lip frenulums look prominent but cause no problems. The decision depends on your child's assessment.
